Mike O'Shea played four times for Glamorgan in 2009 |
Glamorgan have re-signed Mike O'Shea on a one-year deal just 16 months after releasing the batting all rounder. The signing came just 24 hours after Tom Maynard left the Swalec Stadium for a three-year contract with Surrey. Glamorgan released O'Shea in 2009 when former director of cricket Matthew Maynard was in charge. "I appreciate Glamorgan giving me this second chance and look forward to ... working with the new captain and coach," said O'Shea. "I am more determined than ever to succeed and repay those who have put their faith in my ability". Managing director of cricket Colin Metson said: "We are delighted that Mike has rejoined Glamorgan. "He is a talented cricketer, who, since leaving the club in 2009 has continued to impress with the Unicorns". Ex-England Under-19 international O'Shea made his first-class debut for Glamorgan against Bangladesh A at Abergavenny in 2005 at the age of 17. But O'Shea blotted his copybook with Glamorgan when he was suspended by the county for three weeks in the 2009 season after he received a drink-driving conviction. During his first stint with Glamorgan, O'Shea played six first-class matches and 19 one-day games. After he left Glamorgan, he impressed during his season with the semi-professional outfit the Unicorns scoring 90 from 62 balls in a win over Worcestershire. With Glamorgan losing batsmen Jamie Dalrymple, Maynard and Mark Cosgrove, apart from the T20 Cup, O'Shea could find himself with opportunities in 2011 under new coach Matthew Mott.
