Glamorgan have suspended batsman Mike O'Shea for three weeks following a drink-driving offence.

The 21-year-old was handed the punishment at an internal disciplinary hearing on Tuesday.

"Mike O'Shea is a talented cricketer at Glamorgan but he has severely broken the code of employment," said director of cricket Matthew Maynard.

"This will not be tolerated... and we can only hope that he uses this time as a period of reflection."

Former England Under-19 international O'Shea made his first-class debut for Glamorgan against Bangladesh A at Abergavenny in 2005 at the age of 17.

He has featured twice in this season's Friends Provident Trophy and once in the County Championship.

"I am deeply embarrassed about my behaviour and I apologise unreservedly to Glamorgan and the supporters for the effects my actions have had on the club," said O'Shea.

"I accept without question all the sanctions the club have decided to impose on me. Drink driving is utterly unacceptable and totally out of character for me."
