Glamorgan will talk to Gibbs about his future |
If Glamorgan win their battle for a place in the Twenty20 Cup quarter-finals, star batsman Herschelle Gibbs cannot play. Cricket manager Matthew Maynard says Jason Gillespie has taken Gibbs' place among Glamorgan's registered players. Maynard said: "We had to de-register Herschelle under current regulations." Maynard added: "Hopefully we can look to sign something up for the future with Herschelle because he adds such a great impact to the team and the club." | 606: DEBATE | The Welsh county say they should have replaced expelled Yorkshire in the competition, not Nottinghamshire. Chairman Paul Russell and chief executive Mike Fatkin will state Glamorgan's case on Monday in Taunton when Yorkshire's appeal against the England and Wales Cricket Board ruling is heard. Maynard added: "Herschelle isn't registered and the minimum requirement is three weeks so we couldn't just bring him in for the Durham game, then re-register Jason for the championship and then re-register Herschelle for the final stage. "You must have a player with a minimum of three weeks registration so we made the decision to re-register Jason because he was signed up to play championship cricket and he's done a really good job for us so far. "We're lucky to have Jason back in the side and Herschelle was brilliant in the Twenty20."
