Glamorgan batsman Mike Powell is in intensive care after suffering complications following surgery to remove a blood clot in his shoulder. Powell, 30, has been out of action since early June when his left arm became inflamed because of the problem.
He underwent surgery at hospital in Exeter, but it is hoped he could leave intensive care on Friday.
Powell, from Abergavenny, was Glamorgan's player of the year last season.
Glamorgan wicketkeeper Mark Wallace said the complications occured after Powell's rib was removed in surgery.
"It was an innocuous sort of thing - he had stiffness in his arm during the game in Essex and things snowballed from there," he said.
"He had an operation in Exeter where he had a rib taken out and there were a few complications from that."
