Powell was Glamorgan's player of the season last year |
Mike Powell says his health scare following a blood clot keeps a possible six-week absence in perspective. "My arm hadn't been right in the four day game with Essex, but I stayed on the field," said the Glamorgan batsman.
"I went to hospital afterwards and had a series of injections to thin the blood. There are more to follow, and a three-month course of tablets.
"If I over-exert myself and the clot moves it could be serious trouble. It puts things into perspective."
Abergavenny man Powell, 30, was Glamorgan's player of the year last season and a long-term absence will further disrupt the county's woeful season.
"We'll just monitor it with the doctor and hopefully I can get back soon, but it could be up to six weeks," he told BBC Sport Wales.
"It's disappointing, but when you're talking about your health it puts everything else into focus."
Glamorgan were dealt another injury blow when Australian opener Jimmy Maher pulled up with a groin strain in the warm-up ahead of the start of the LV County Championship clash with Nottinghamshire in Swansea. The Queenslander collapsed in a heap as Glamorgan went through their training drills and could be out of action for up to a month.
