Powell is set to miss the entire Twenty20 campaign |
Glamorgan batsman Mike Powell will have surgery to remove part of a bone in his chest which has caused a blood clot under his collarbone. Powell, 29, has been out of action since early June when his left arm became inflamed because of the problem.
He has been told to rest for another two weeks following the operation.
"There hasn't been any improvement over the last couple of weeks and I think Michael was getting a bit concerned," said Glamorgan captain David Hemp.
"It is a bit worrying that he is having to have surgery, but at least it will cure the problem and hopefully he can get back to cricket sooner rather than later."
Glamorgan, already struggling with a lengthy injury list, were dealt another blow this week when all-rounder Alex Wharf fell ill with an infection.
He is doubtful for Glamorgan's first two Twenty20 matches on Friday (Gloucestershire) and Sunday (Warwickshire).
Jimmy Maher (groin) and long-term injury victim David Harrison are definitely out, with doubts surrounding Simon Jones (knee), Adam Harrison (foot) and Michael O'Shea (back).
