Pace bowler Simon Jones is pushing for an England Test recall |
Glamorgan paceman Simon Jones gave the England selectors a timely reminder with a five-wicket haul against Somerset in the County Championship.
He suffered a double blow last week when James Anderson was preferred for the second Test against West Indies.
Jones then found there was no place in the Glamorgan side for him, but has made the most of his return at Taunton.
"I felt a little bit ragged in the morning, but tonight was the first I felt really good all game," he said.
The timing of Jones' return to form was immaculate with England set to announce their squads for the Champions Trophy on Friday and the third Test on Sunday.
He added: "The rhythm has started to come back now, I'm quite happy with my progress and the Glamorgan physio is looking after me quite well."
Jones has not long returned from a foot injury and looked rusty in England's win at Lord's in the first Test against the West Indies.
Although Anderson claimed two late wickets in the second Test win, his place is by no means secure.
England bowling coach Troy Cooley was in the crowd at Taunton on Wednesday to witness Jones take 5-48 on the second day of the match, having gone wicketless and shipped 46 runs on the first day.
