Cidermen dominate Glamorgan
County Championship D2, Taunton, day one: Somerset 143-1 v Glamorgan 262

Simon Francis claimed career-best figures to bowl Glamorgan out for 262 in their Division Two clash at Taunton.

And Ricky Ponting (71) joined Peter Bowler (51) to take the hosts to 143-1 in reply by the end of day one.

Francis ran through the middle order for a haul of 5-42 and was rewarded for accurate line and length bowling.

Australian opener Matthew Elliott stood out with a century but had no support until Darren Thomas (54) joined him to add 92 for the eighth wicket.

When Nixon McLean finally uprooted Elliott's off-stump it deprived the left-hander of a place in the history books.

Richard Johnson had earlier made an early impact on his Championship return from an ankle injury, dismissing Mark Wallace and David Hemp with just 14 runs on the board.

But Simon Jones, who was left out last week despite being dropped by England, endured a nightmare on his return to the Glamorgan line-up, seeing six overs bludgeoned for 46 runs by Ponting and Bowler.
