Styris has taken 14 wickets in 27 T20 internationals for New Zealand |
Essex have signed New Zealand all-rounder Scott Styris for their forthcoming Twenty20 campaign. The 34-year-old batsman and medium-pace bowler will miss Essex's opening match with Kent but will arrive for their trip to Surrey on 10 June. Coach Paul Grayson told the club website: "He has shown good form for New Zealand and has the experience of the World Cup to offer. "We hope he will make a big impact on the side." He added: "As a committed cricketer he knows how to play the game and is a canny one day player, he could well prove to be a very astute signing for Essex." Styris will remain with the club for the remainder of the group stages, with an option to stay for the quarter-finals. The former Durham and Middlesex man, who has played in 29 Tests, 165 one-day internationals and 27 Twenty20 internationals, was part of New Zealand's recent World Twenty20 team.
