Captain accepts Essex bowling is understrength

Danish Kaneria
Danish Kaneria is still playing domestic Cricket in Pakistan

After two heavy defeats, Essex captain Mark Pettini has admitted the county's bowling is currently under-strength.

The newly promoted side have been thrashed by Lancashire and Yorkshire in their last two championship matches.

Essex are still without overseas bowler Danish Kaneria and have drafted in Chris Martin from New Zealand.

"We are missing Danish as he's a match-winning bowler and if you look at our side at the moment we are missing that," Pettini told BBC Essex.

The recent beatings have been a reality check for Essex after a promising start to life back in Division One of the Championship.

"Our bowlers stuck to their task well and hit the right areas most of the time, but when they didn't they got punished and we paid the price," said Pettini.
