Kaneria was a key figure for Essex in the 2004 and 2005 seasons |
Essex have completed the signing of leg-spinner Danish Kaneria for the 2007 season after being granted clearance by the Pakistan Cricket Board. Kaneria, 26, played for Essex between 2004-05, but missed last season due to Pakistan's tour of England.
But the spinner will be available for the summer and Essex chief executive David East said: "We are delighted.
"He is contracted for the whole season, though he can be recalled by the PCB if he is needed at international level."
Kaneria took 95 first-class wickets in 18 matches at an average of 28.18 during his first two seasons at Essex, as well as 16 wickets in 10 matches in Essex's totesport League triumph of 2005.
And East added: "It's been a challenging few weeks for us in terms of trying to clarify his availability and our thanks go to the Pakistan Cricket Board for their understanding and agreement to release their player."
