Totesport winners Essex ended the season with their 13th victory as Northamptonshire were comfortably beaten at Wantage Road.

Impressive young batsman Alastair Cook hit his best one-day score of 94 as the Eagles soared to a target of 209 in the 41st over, losing three wickets.

Martin Love and Damien Wright had each hit fifties for the hosts, while Cook was supported by Grant Flower's 88.

Veteran Darren Gough was the pick of Essex's bowlers with figures of 2-24.
