Onions has been oft-linked with the England set-up |
Durham fast bowler Graham Onions has signed a new deal at the Riverside keeping him at the club until 2011. The 25-year-old has been a regular in the Durham attack and head coach Geoff Cook was delighted with Onions' decision to remain with the club. "We are really pleased that Graham has chosen to stay especially after a lot of interest from other counties," Cook told the official website. "He is one of the most promising young bowlers in the country." Onions was also joined in agreeing a new deal with fellow bowlers Mark Davies and Liam Plunkett, and Cook believes having a core of local players has been key in Durham's recent success. "To be able to boast an effective bowling attack made up of local lads, which include Liam Plunkett and Mark Davies, reflects well on the area," he said. | I'm delighted to be staying, I love playing for Durham Durham bowler Graham Onions |
For the Gateshead-born seamer, signing a deal with Durham is a measure of his development since breaking into the side in 2004. "I'm delighted to be staying at Durham, I love playing for the club and the decision to stay was an easy one to make," he said. "It's been a great environment for me to develop my game and the set up here has been great for me over the years. "The team is definitely going in the right direction and I want to be able to play a major part in the club's continued success." Onions has taken 23 wickets for Durham so far in 2008.
