Australian batsman Chris Rogers has signed a new deal with Derbyshire which will see him return as captain in 2009. The 31-year-old has been handed a new contract as the club's overseas player after an impressive season. Left-hander Rogers has scored more than 1,000 runs in first-class cricket this season as well as notching up six half-centuries in limited-overs games. Head of cricket John Morris said: "He has proved to be an excellent leader and his experience will be vital."  | The captaincy has been an exciting new challenge for me | Rogers made his Test debut for Australia in January and is due to start his career at Victoria during the English winter, having spent 10 years with Western Australia. He told the club website: "We have a talented squad here with some exciting young players coming through and a good spirit within the camp so I hope we can continue to progress and enjoy a successful 2009. "The captaincy has been an exciting new challenge for me and I am already looking forward to continuing to lead Derbyshire next season."
