County Championship, D1, Edgbaston, day four: Warwickshire 476-9d & 241-4 drew with Derbyshire 474 Points: Warwicks 12, Derbys 11
Derbyshire captain Chris Rogers was denied a new record as his team drew with Warwickshire at Edgbaston. Rogers resumed on 237 in a total of 462-7, with a 112-year-old landmark for Derbyshire's highest score in sight. But only 12 runs were added as Rogers, after five sessions at the crease, was left on 248, 26 from George Davidson's 274 against Lancashire in 1896. Rogers hit 34 fours and a six and was the first Derbyshire man to carry his bat in a completed innings since 2002. The Australian left-hander's hopes of eclipsing the record suffered a major blow when two of the remaining batsmen failed to last beyond the first full over of the day. Boyd Rankin had Graham Wagg caught at second slip and Charl Langeveldt made some contact down the leg-side for a catch behind the wicket by Tim Ambrose. Last man Nayan Doshi did his best to hang on for Rogers, allowing the opener time to hit two fours off Rankin. But the tailender was bowled to give Ian Salisbury his fifth wicket and Derbyshire were all out for 474, two runs short of Warwickshire's first innings total. The remainder of the match was therefore academic, as Warwickshire recorded their seventh draw at home this season. Ian Westwood edged onto his middle stump to give Langeveldt his 50th wicket of the season, but skipper Darren Maddy hit 16 fours in a fine 138, sharing 176 with Tony Frost, who made 54 before falling in Wagg's first over of left-arm spin.
