Hinds celebrates a wicket for the West Indies |
West Indian international batsman Wavell Hinds will extend his stay at Derbyshire until the end of the season after being granted Kolpak status. The England and Wales Cricket Board had refused the 31-year-old Kolpak registration because he had played in the rebel Indian Cricket League. Instead Hinds joined as an overseas player for the Twenty20 Cup period. But the ECB has backtracked on its decision over ICL players which means Hinds can join as originally planned. The left-hander, who also bowls medium pace, is likely to make his Phantoms debut against Worcestershire in the LV County Championship at Chesterfield on Friday, 6 June. | Being able to add a player of his calibre to the squad from the beginning of June is a terrific boost Derbyshire head of cricket John Morris |
Derbyshire head of cricket John Morris said: "After all of the trials and tribulations and the obstacles we have faced it is great that Wavell is finally joining us. "He should have been here from April and it is disappointing that he has missed out on the early part of the season. "However, being able to add a player of his calibre to the squad from the beginning of June is a terrific boost." | 606: DEBATE | Hinds has played 45 Tests and 114 one-day internationals for the West Indies, scoring 10 centuries, including a best of 213, and has also hit 28 half-centuries. He has scored 7,119 first-class runs with a 34.55 average and has taken 28 one-day international wickets.
