Derbyshire fans will see Wavell Hinds after all this season |
West Indies batsman Wavell Hinds will replace Australia's Chris Rogers as Derbyshire's overseas player for the summer's domestic Twenty20 tournament. The 31-year-old had originally accepted a deal to appear for the Phantoms as a Kolpak player for the entire season. But the England and Wales Cricket Board blocked it because he had played in the unsanctioned Indian Cricket League. Rogers will return after a mid-season break for the Championship match against Leicestershire from 11 July. Hinds, who also bowls medium pace, will appear in Derbyshire's group matches in the Twenty20 Cup, and - if they qualify - the competition's quarter-finals. Rogers will be the overseas player for Twenty20 finals day, should Derbyshire make it into the last four. Hinds will also be available for the County Championship match against Essex, starting on 29 June. Derbyshire head of cricket John Morris said: "Wavell has qualities we need - experience, ability and character." Hinds, a veteran of 45 Tests and 114 one-day internationals, has scored 10 centuries and 28 fifties in international cricket.
