Derbyshire chief executive Tom Sears has confirmed they have been blocked from signing Wavell Hinds by the England and Wales Cricket Board. The county had hoped to sign the West Indies opener but the ECB has blocked his move due to Hinds' involvement in the rebel Indian Cricket League. "His application for registration has been turned down," said Sears. "Primarily on the grounds that he has played domestic cricket in another country in the past 12 months." | 606: DEBATE |
Sears added: "In the past the ECB have chosen to waive that rule in a number of cases, with Jacques Rudolph being one of the most notable. "But because of Wavell's involvement in the Indian Cricket League, which is an unsanctioned event, they have declined to wave that sanction." The ECB has complex regulations in place to ban those players competing in the ICL from county cricket.
