Hinds has excellent experience of international cricket |
Derbyshire have signed West Indies opening batsman Wavell Hinds on a one-year contract. Jamaican Hinds, 31 and a veteran of 45 Tests, does not count as an overseas player because of the European Court's controversial Kolpak ruling.
Head of cricket John Morris said: "It is terrific news for Derbyshire that we have been able to sign a player of Wavell's quality and experience.
"He has plenty of experience and proven ability at the highest level."
Hinds is the fourth player signed by Derbyshire since 15 October.
Rikki Clarke will captain the side, with his former Surrey team-mate Nayan Doshi providing a spin option, and batsman John Sadler has arrived from Leicestershire.
Chairman Don Amott said: "Wavell Hinds is another great addition and it is great to see that our squad for 2008 is really taking shape.
"John Morris has been working very hard to recruit quality players to take the club forward and now we are seeing the fruits of his labour."
