Langeveldt had been playing for Cape Cobras in South Africa |
Derbyshire have added experience to their bowling attack with the capture of South Africa paceman Charl Langeveldt as a Kolpak player. The 33-year-old will go straight into Derbyshire's squad for Sunday's Friends Provident Trophy match against Yorkshire at Headingley. "Charl is an excellent addition to our squad and brings real quality," said head of cricket John Morris. "He has proven ability at the highest level of the game." Langeveldt has played 59 one-day internationals including two World Cup campaigns for South Africa, taking 82 wickets at an average of 28.46. | We are delighted to have him on board | The paceman has also played six Test matches for his country, most recently in March this year, although he recently pulled out of a tour of India. Langeveldt had been named in the squad to satisfy a racial target of six players of colour in the South Africa squad, but was upset by the public controversy which followed. He has previously played county cricket for Somerset in 2005 and Leicestershire in 2007. Morris insists Derbyshire were not the only club looking to secure the services of Langeveldt. "We managed to bring him to Derbyshire ahead of several other options he had and we are delighted to have him on board," he added.
