Derbyshire have signed former Gloucestershire opener Phil Weston on a two-year contract. Weston, 33, scored over 900 first-class runs last year but was released from the final year of his contract to move closer to his family home in the north.
"I believe I can be part of another side that will challenge for trophies as Gloucestershire have done," he said.
Weston played under current Derbyshire director of cricket David Houghton at his first club, Worcestershire.
"He knows how to win at the top level and in pressure situations, those qualities will benefit our squad enormously," said Houghton.
"The fact that he has chosen to join us ahead of several other options is a testimony to the way we are progressing and our ambition as a club."
