Gloucestershire trio will depart
Martyn Ball

Gloucestershire have announced a third player will be departing the club at the end of the season.

Seam bowler James Averis will join Phil Weston and Matt Windows in not having his contract renewed.

Averis is studying a law degree and is planning to secure employment in this area once his playing career is over.

Weston has been allowed to be released from the final year of his contract in order to move closer to his family home in the north.

"This has been a difficult decision and one which I have not taken lightly," said Weston, who joined the club from Worcestershire in 2003.

Batsman Windows has decided to retire from first-class cricket at the age of 33.

Once deemed good enough to warrant selection for an England A tour to Zimbabwe and South Africa, he has only played five Championship matches this summer.

"I have achieved a lot over my time her, winning many trophies. It is nice to be able to give a chance to emerging players and encourage the next generation of Gloucestershire greats," he commented.

Veteran spinner Martyn Ball, meanwhile, has been awarded a new contract for 2007, his 20th season with the club.

Ball, who toured India with England in 2001 but did not play a Test, has taken 27 wickets in 10 Championship matches this season.

Skipper Jon Lewis said: "He is very influential on and off the field and his contribution has been invaluable."
