Cambridgeshire captain Simon Kellett was pleased with his side's spinners in the season-opening Minor Counties Championship draw with Norfolk. Kellett's men had to settle for a draw after rain put paid to the third day. But, in reply to Cambridgeshire's 217, spinners Paul McMahon (7-86) and Peter Richer (2-70) took nine wickets between them as Norfolk were held to 271. "I thought our spinners were fantastic in how they controlled the game," Kellett told BBC Radio Cambridgeshire. "He's fantastic in the changing room, he's a great lad who's added loads to our team, not only with the quality of his spin but the quality of the bloke as well." As for Richer, he made a solid debut with both bat and ball at March, having already hit an unbeaten 44. "I was a bit surprised coming into this game because I thought I'd been selected as a batsman," he said. "But apparently I was a second spinner. "I bowled quite a few overs, more than I expected, and I was really pleased with the wicket of their captain." Cambridgeshire are next in Minor Counties action when they travel to Suffolk for the second of their six Eastern Division matches on 20 June. Cambridgeshire 217 (Burton 48, Brown 4-38, Walker 3-45) and 66-0 (Burton 34no, Freear 31no), Norfolk 271 (Rogers 96, Arthuron 69, McMahon 7-86).
