PRO40 DIVISION ONE, Headingley: Yorkshire 173-2 beat Gloucestershire 172 by eight wkts (Yorks 2pts)
Jacques Rudolph has hit now 851 one-day runs for Yorkshire this summer |
Jacques Rudolph took his tally of one-day runs past 800 this season as Yorkshire eased to a comfortable eight-wicket Pro40 win over Gloucestershire. Ajmal Shahzad (2-19) starred with the ball as the visitors were rolled for 172, of which James Franklin hit 55. But Rudolph and fellow opener Joe Sayers (55) put on 121 for the first wicket to set up the Tykes' victory. In-form Rudolph finished on 72 at an appreciative Headingley as Yorkshire reached 173-2 to win in the 32nd over. It was the South African's seventh one-day fifty of the season, having hit 851 runs from 25 knocks. And it set up the victory which ensured that Yorkshire will not finish bottom of Pro 40 Division One. It was also a good bowling performance from one of the Tykes' youngest-ever attacks. Shahzad (24) was well backed by spinner David Wainwright (also 24), and pacemen Steve Patterson (the old man at 26), Lee Hodgson (23) and James Lee (20), who took three wickets on only his third appearance. More tellingly, it will put the Tykes in confident mood for next Wednesday's crucial County Championship relegation tussle against fellow strugglers Sussex at Hove (16 September, 1030 BST).
