Parkinson hints at Kandol return

Tresor Kandol
Kandol says he would be allowed to leave Leeds United

Charlton Athletic have still not given up hope of signing Leeds United's Tresor Kandol for a second loan spell.

The Leeds striker scored twice in 10 starts for the Addicks last season, and has been told he can leave Elland Road.

Addicks manager Phil Parkinson told BBC London 94.9: "We weren't in a position to give long contracts out right close to the deadline.

"He enjoyed his time here, he's London-based so, who knows? He could end up a Charlton player at some point."

Parkinson confirmed that a stumbling block before the transfer window closed at the end of August was the length of the player's contract if he signed permanently.

But Charlton did bring in former Coventry City striker Leon McKenzie to bolster their attack.

Meanwhile, Parkinson also reveals that Charlton made a pre-deadline approach to bring Wolverhampton Wanderers defender Darren Ward, another player who spent time on loan at the club last season, back to The Valley,

"Darren Ward was a similar situation," said Parkinson. "Someone that we were speaking to over the summer.

"But once again, Wolves wanted a fee for him and, because he's on a good contract, he was out of our wage structure.

"We're trying to keep everything at a certain level this season.

"Darren did great for us last year and he's someone we looked at, but around the time of the deadline it was too expensive to take that any further."

Charlton may now have missed out on Ward to local rivals Millwall, who announced on their website on Thursday evening that Ward is now close to agreeing a loan move back to the New Den.

One player still being linked with a move away from The Valley is striker Chris Dickson, who has struggled to break into the first team this season.

Gillingham boss Mark Stimson enquired about the 24-year-old last month, but Parkinson insists that the interest from their Kent neighbours has not been followed up.

"I haven't had any calls," he said. "But I have to say that because sometimes chairmen go to chairmen or chief executive goes to chief executive.

"But in terms of Mark Stimson ringing me following the conversation we had on deadline day, there's been no further progress on that one."
