COUNTY CHAMPIONSHIP DIVISION ONE, Taunton: CLOSE OF PLAY, FINAL DAY: Match Drawn. Sussex 742-5dec, Somerset 521-6 (Sussex 10pts, Somerset 10pts) 19-22 August 2009
Somerset's run fest with Sussex petered out into the expected draw at Taunton as both sides took 10 points from their County Championship Division One clash. There was little chance of a result after most of day three was lost to the rain, so Somerset's final-day target was to take maximum batting points. After resuming on 164-0, they achieved this thanks to centuries from Craig Kieswetter,Arul Suppiah and Only 15 batsmen took guard in the match - and six of them made centuries. The battle to avoid going down with Worcestershire, who are way adrift, is incredibly tight, with just four points now covering the teams from fifth to eighth. Hampshire currently occupy eighth place, just a point behind Yorkshire, who are two behind Warwickshire, with Sussex a further point better off. More to follow.
