Murtagh strikes as Derbys stutter

COUNTY CHAMPIONSHIP DIVISION TWO, Derby:
CLOSE OF PLAY, DAY TWO: Derbys 247
(Derbys 1pt, Middx 3pts)
21 - 24 July 2009

Tim Murtagh
Murtagh claimed his best ever figures of 7-82

Tim Murtagh claimed a career-best 7-82 as Middlesex bowled out Derbyshire for 247 on day two at Derby.

With the opening day having been lost to rain, Murtagh soon trapped Chris Rogers lbw for a duck before ripping through the hosts' batting line-up.

Fellow opener Wayne Madsen made 43, while tail-enders Tim Groenewald (48) and Steffan Jones (54) gave their side a more respectable first-innings total.

Middlesex reached 16-1 in reply at stumps, Sam Robson the man out.

Robson fell victim to Graham Wagg, who had him caught by Rogers.

Earlier, Murtagh was well supported with the ball by Steven Finn, who took three wickets including Madsen and Garry Park (32).
