Warwicks make most of tame draw

COUNTY CHAMPIONSHIP DIVISION ONE, Edgbaston:
Warwickshire 403-8 dec drew with Lancashire 317
(Warwicks 12pts, Lancs 9pts)

Wawickshire v Lancashire

Warwickshire secured maximum bonus points as their rain-affected clash with Lancashire at Edgbaston ended in a predictable draw.

Resuming on the final morning on 370-8, Chris Woakes and Naqaash Tahir secured the Bears a fifth batting point before they declared on 403-8.

Tahir (4-55) and Ant Botha (4-86) then starred with the ball as Lancashire were bowled out for 317.

Mark Chilton hit 85 and Francois du Plessis 79 for the visitors.

It was Du Plessis' highest score in four-day cricket for Lancashire on his return to the side after injury.

Lancashire coach Peter Moores told BBC Radio Lancashire:

"It was promising to see people getting runs to back up the win against Worcestershire.

"Francois played really well. He played with real intent, nice and positive and that's the style he plays when he's at his best.

"We've seen in the one-dayers that when he goes out there and looks to be watchful if needed, but still looking to score his runs then that is when he is at his best."

Francois du Plessis told BBC Radio Lancashire:

"We set out to get 350 but you can't be too upset to score 300 in a day.

"I wanted to be positive and play with a lot of intent and put pressure on the bowlers and that helped us.

"I was very annoyed with myself for getting out but at the time I was thinking of going for the bonus points first.

"Getting to a hundred was never my main goal. But I was batting really well and I deserved to get a hundred."
