Van Jaarsveld reached 107 against his former club

Martin van Jaarsveld hit his 17th Championship century in five seasons for Kent against former club Northants.

Kent, who resumed on 257-3, were eventually dismissed for 417, as Van Jaarsveld (107) and Darren Stevens (73) added 127 for the fourth wicket.

Northants were not helped by a knee injury to seamer Johannes van der Wath.

Stephen Peters (62 no) and Rob White (70) steered Northants to 148-2 in their second innings by the close, a lead of 86.
