South African Boje led from the front for Northants

Northants captain Nicky Boje hit an unbeaten 77 as his side made 268-5 on the opening day of their Division Two clash with a depleted Kent.

Robert White hit 41 before being trapped leg before by Pakistan Test paceman Azhar Mahmood, who also took the wicket of Ben Howgego (18).

Andrew Hall hit six fours as he made 38 before also being given out lbw.

Steffan Jones, who has signed on loan from Somerset, took 1-53 against his old county on his Kent debut.
