York chairman Nigel Durham has kept wicket for the first team for 20 years |
York chairman Nigel Durham has hailed his club's incredible success which saw them go the entire Yorkshire Premier League season without losing. Their 23 wins and three no-results is another League record, to go with their fourth title win in a row. Durham told BBC Radio York: "We are incredibly proud of the club. We're doing well in all the divisions that we are playing in." York's second team also won the York Senior League first division title. "We've got a great junior set-up and the fifth team, which has a lot of junior players run who are doing exceptionally well," Durham added. | It's important to bring on people and get the right balance between the present and the future |
"The future of the club is our junior set-up and it's really important to us. "We have a lot of senior players who help out with the juniors, and we want as many juniors down here as possible." York's unbeaten run was under a slight threat as Castleford needed 38 to win off the last six overs on Saturday, but bad light ended the game. York also won the League Cup, but lost their Black Sheep Trophy final last Sunday to Huddersfield League side Scholes. Batsmen Duncan Snell and Simon Mason topped 1,000 league runs, and York's two spinners Daniel Woods and Tom Pringle finished in the League's top three wicket-takers. First-team captain Marcus Wood added: "It's extremely important for all levels of the club and all level of the junior section to be as successful as we can. "It's important to bring on people and get the right balance between the present and the future."
