Kay skippered the York side in their League Cup Final win over Castleford |
York beat Castleford by 242 runs to add the Yorkshire League Cup to last year's League Title and Black Sheep Trophy. York posted 300-9 but Castleford were dismissed for just 58, with Tom Pringle ending the match with a hat-trick. Man of the match Liam McKendry, who scored 76 and took 2-12, told BBC Radio York: "To win by that margin in a cup final is very pleasing. "I was a bit nervous, it was my first senior cup final ever. It was a great day for the team." Dan Wilson chipped in with 52 for captain Nick Kay's York, while Tom Bartram took 3-22 and Pringle finished with 3-14 after his late drama. | If we can get three trophies that would be brilliant |
"It was a nice way to round off the match," said Pringle, whose spin partnership with Daniel Woods has now brought nearly 130 wickets for the pair in league and cup competitions. "I love bowling with Dan," Pringle added, "he's the best bowler I've ever bowled with." McKendry's 2-12 was a bigger surprise, not least to himself, as he came to York from Thirsk primarily as an opening batsman. "It's a bit of a shock, to be honest, bowling, but it's been swinging about a bit with the new ball. "I bowled a few overs last year now and again (at Thirsk) bowling first change, but the wickets are a bit different in the Yorkshire League." York are heavy odds-on favourites to win the Yorkshire Premier League again, and are in the final of the 2010 Black Sheep Trophy again. "If we can get three trophies that'll be brilliant," McKendry added.
