Jersey's cricket team will meet hosts Nepal in the opening match of the ICC World Cricket League Division Five tournament in Kathmandu next month. At the last Division Five tournament in May 2008, Jersey were promoted after reaching the final against Afghanistan. However, they were subsequently relegated from Division Four in October 2008, after finishing last in the tournament which was held in Tanzania. Jersey have never faced Nepal in a competitive international match. The Asian side reached the semi-finals of the last Division Five tournament in Jersey where they lost to Afghanistan by 37 runs. | Jersey's ICC Division Five Tournament Schedule 19 February - Practice and meetings 20 February - Jersey v Nepal (Army School) 21 February - Jersey v Fiji (Tribhuvan) 23 February - USA v Jersey (Tribhuvan) 24 February - Bahrain v Jersey (Army School) 26 February - Jersey v Singapore (Army School) 27 February - Third/fourth play-off (Army School) 27 February - Final (Tribhuvan) |
February's tournament gives Jersey the chance to regain Division Four status, however they will first have to overcome Singapore, Fiji and the USA. Bahrain, who were promoted from Division Six last September are also in Jersey's group. Jersey will fancy their chances against the USA having beaten them by 84 runs in the 2008 Division Five semi-final. Fiji beat Jersey by 27 runs in the fifth-place-play-off in Division Four, but the island side failed to perform that day, having beaten the Pacific islanders by 79 runs in the group stage. Nepalese capital Kathmadu will host all the matches at three grounds - Tribhuvan University, Army School Ground and the Engineering College.
