Grange miss out in narrow defeat

Woodhouse Grange players
Woodhouse Grange have won two out of four Lord's finals

Woodhouse Grange Cricket Club failed to defend their National Village Knockout Cup title on Monday.

They lost to Valley End from Surrey by just 24 runs at Lord's after being set a target of 195 to win.

Captain Steve Burdett told BBC Radio York: "It's a massive disappointment but I said it would take a good start to beat us.

"It was gettable [the target],it was a decent day. They bowled well early on and didn't let out many loose balls."

He added: "They bowled in the right areas, used the facilities and to be fair they're worthy champions.

"The biggest problem that we had was unfortunately we lost the toss.

"We would have liked to have batted but that's sport.

"You've got to put up with it. Some you win some you lose and sadly we lost."
