Some important batting points saw Shrewsbury pull further ahead at the top of the Birmingham League First Division at the weekend. They notched up 191-5 (Rob Foster 66, Dan Reece 61) against Coventry, before rain halted the game. Promotion-chasing Shrewsbury are now four points clear of second-placed Bromsgrove, six clear of Old Hill. In Division Two, Newport were 14-0 replying to Penn's 168-4 when the rain started falling. In Division Three, Maisam Hasnain took 4-51 as Whitchurch limited league leaders Womborne to 162. Unfortunately the weather then prevented any Whitchurch reply. Ian Gregory hit 42 and Paras Dogra 41 as Bridgnorth reached 136-9 against Kington - but again the weather stopped any response from the opposition. In the Shropshire Premier League, Albrighton made a slight inroad into Reman's lead at the top of the table. They picked up nine points from a drawn game at Wem. The home side made 142-7, with Albrighton replying on 128-7. The basement battle saw bottom side Broseley make 100-9, with the side immediately above them - Shelton - on 13-1 when the downpours came. The rain meant the rest of the programme was abandoned without a ball being bowled.
