The Bahamas were dismissed for 118 inside 40 overs

Guernsey beat the Bahamas by an impressive 158 runs in Tuesday's friendly at Port Soif.

Guernsey won the toss and chose to bat, piling up 276 off their 50 overs, Jeremy Frith top-scoring on 72.

Frith then snared five victims for just 19 runs, dismissing the Bahamas for 118 inside 40 overs.

"This is the sort of opposition that we should be playing against in the future," said Frith. "And to register a big victory is very important."

Openers Matt Oliver and debutant Ross Kneller put on 108 for the first wicket and, at one stage, Guernsey looked set for a 300-plus score.

But the loss of a couple of quick wickets and the introduction of the Bahamian spinners slowed down the rate.

In their reply, the Bahamas lost wickets steadily from the outset as seamer Tim Duke took the first four, despite struggling with his radar with the white ball.

Off spinner Gary Rich then frustrated the visitors, conceding just 19 runs from his nine overs as he helped Frith bowl out the opposition.

"I'm quite pleased to get underway really." said Frith "It's my first game for Guernsey this season.

"More importantly though, it's a nice big win for the boys.

"This is the sort of opposition that we should be playing against in World Cricket League tournaments in the future and to register a big victory is very important."

The game was a warm-up for the Bahamas before they hop over to Jersey for the World Cricket League Division Five tournament.

Despite being well beaten, all-rounder Dwight Wheakley was happy for the chance to get used to the conditions.

"The more we play in these conditions, obviously we'll get better, "he said. "Back home it's 90 degrees, so we're used to the hot sun.

"The chill breeze - it's killing us."
