Guernsey has impressed an International Cricket Council inspection team who have visited to decide if the island is worthy of associate member status.

The team has viewed cricket facilities and infrastructure before deciding whether to recommend promotion.

"There's a great off-field team of people with a great plan for the elite performances," said the ICC's global development manager, Matthew Kennedy.

Associate membership is one level below Test-playing countries.

In order to become an associate member, a country must prove it has an organised cricket infrastructure off the field and have beaten two other associate member nations during a two-year period.

Jersey were awarded associate member status last year after a successful inspection and wins over Germany in the ICC European division two championship in 2006 and Italy in a series of three one-day internationals in 2007.

Guernsey are currently affiliate members of the ICC but seem well placed to be recommended for promotion at an ICC meeting in July.
