ICC World Cricket League final, Nairobi: Kenya 158-2 beat Scotland 155 all out Kenya celebrate their ICC World Cricket League success |
Scotland's ICC World Cricket League bid ended in disappointing fashion when they lost by eight wickets to hosts Kenya in the final in Nairobi.
The Scots were dismissed for 155 and Kenya surpassed that poor total with more than 12 overs to spare.
Scotland started brightly and were 59-1 before they lost five wickets for the addition of only seven runs.
David Obuya made 93 from 117 balls and Kenya skipper Steve Tikolo smashed three quick fours to seal victory.
Scotland opener Fraser Watts and number three batsman Ryan Watson put on 52 for the second wicket, scoring 24 and 28 respectively, but both fell inside two overs.
After the shocking middle-order slump, Scotland were indebted to captain Craig Wright for steering them to a respectable score.
Wright, who came in at number eight, made 30, with Ross Lyons adding an unbeaten 23.
Lameck Onyango claimed bowling figures of three for 43 from his 10 overs, with Jimmy Kamande finishing with two for 20 from nine.
The Scotland bowlers were given too much to do and had no answer to the impressive batting of Obuya.
Both teams went into the game with a record of four wins and one loss from the group stage, with Scotland having beaten Kenya by 77 runs when they last clashed.
And both nations have been rewarded with a place at September's inaugural ICC Twenty20 World Championships in South Africa.
