Brian Lara is the new leading run-scorer in Test cricket following his inspired double century against Australia. Once, 10,000 runs was the ultimate landmark for a batsman in Test cricket.
Now two batsmen have passed 11,000 and with more Test cricket being played the 12,000 mark is only a matter of time.
The table below shows the 13 batsmen who have reached 8,000 runs - and it features four Englishmen.

Perhaps the most impressive entry here is Sir Garfield Sobers, the only one in the list to have played fewer than 100 Tests.
Waiting in the wings is Inzamam-ul-Haq, just 45 runs away from 8,000 and with a Test against England in Lahore on Tuesday to come.
Other current players past 7,000 runs include Rahul Dravid, Ricky Ponting, Jacques Kallis and Justin Langer.
The best aggregate by a current England player is Marcus Trescothick's 5,452.
Finally, where is the Don? Sir Donald Bradman, who retired with an extraordinary Test average of 99.94, only played 52 Tests which yielded 6,996 runs.
