Lara joins 10,000 club
West Indies captain Brian Lara celebrates making his 10,000th Test run during the match at Old Trafford
Lara reached the milestone by cutting Andrew Flintoff for four

West Indies captain Brian Lara has become the fourth player in Test cricket history to score 10,000 runs.

Lara, 35, achieved the remarkable milestone during the Windies' second innings on the fourth day of the third Test at Old Trafford.

But he was out for seven moments later as England's Andrew Flintoff dismissed him with a brutish delivery.

The Trinidadian joins Australians Allan Border and Steve Waugh, and Indian Sunil Gavaskar in the elite club.

He holds the records for the highest Test and first-class scores, 400 not out and 501 respectively.

His epic quadruple century against England in Antigua this April saw him become the first man to reclaim the world record, which he set at 375 in 1994 and then lost to Australian Matthew Hayden last year.
TOP TEST RUN-SCORERS
1. A Border (Aus) 11,174 runs in 265 innings
2. S Waugh (Aus) 10,927 runs in 260 innings
3. S Gavaskar (Ind) 10,122 runs in 214 innings
4. B Lara (WI) 10,002 runs in 195 innings
5. S Tendulkar (Ind) 9,470 runs in 184 innings

The latest feather in his cap is made all the more remarkable by the fact he passed the 10,000 mark much faster than the three players above him, all of whom have retired.

Lara fell five runs short of a 27th career century in the first innings of the second Test at Edgbaston, leaving him one behind fifth-placed Border on the all-time list.

Gavaskar (34), Sachin Tendulkar (33), Waugh (32) and the late Sir Don Bradman (29) are ahead of them both.
