Second Test, Bulawayo, day three (stumps)
Bangladesh 88-5 v Zimbabwe Heath Streak was a constant threat in good bowling conditions |
Bangladesh slumped from 64-0 to 88-5 on the third day of the second Test against Zimbabwe in which no play had been possible for the first two days.
But the rain set in again allowing just 37.1 overs to be bowled by the home side, leaving a draw almost inevitable.
Bangladesh still managed to spoil a good start with the bat, with Sean Ervine taking two wickets.
The collapse followed a watchful stand between openers Hannan Sarkar (25) and Shahriar Hossain (31).
Hossain faced 70 balls before driving at a wide ball from Ervine to give wicket-keeper Tatenda Taibu a catch.
Out-of-sorts captain Habibul Bashar added just four to the cause before edging Heath Streak to slip. And Sarkar's 71-ball effort was ended when he was bowled by Ervine.
Juggling
The fourth man out was Mohammad Ashraful, who made a single run in 34 balls before Stuart Carlisle held a juggling catch in the slips as Travis Friend claimed a wicket.
To cap Bangladesh's misery, Rajin Saleh, on six, gave Ervine a catch in the gully off Douglas Hondo shortly before the heavens opened for the umpteenth time in the match.
Zimbabwe lead the two-match series 1-0 after winning the first Test in Harare by a comfortable margin.
But In Bulawayo, interminable rain made any play impossible for the first two scheduled days of cricket.
A draw would be Bangladesh's second in Test cricket. Their first no result was also severely rain-affected and they have lost their 26 other Tests.
