One-day international, Harare: Bangladesh 238-7 (50 overs) beat Zimbabwe 230-9 (50 overs) by eight runs Rajin Saleh collects four with a powerful pull shot |
Bangladesh pulled off their first one-day international win since May 1999 by defeating Zimbabwe by eight runs in Harare.
They totalled 238-7 after Mohammad Ashraful hit 51 not out off 32 balls and then restricted Zimbabwe to 230-9.
It was only their fourth win overall in 83 one-day internationals.
Stuart Carlisle (71) and Barney Rogers (51) put on 109 for the second wicket for Zimbabwe but the task of scoring 13 off the last over was beyond them.
The task of bowling it fell to medium-pacer Tariq Aziz, whose first five overs with the new ball had cost 34.

He he rose to the occasion by bowling Stuart Matsikenyeri and Doug Hondo with his first two deliveries, and although Blessing Mahwire scored two off the hat-trick ball, Bangladesh were not to be denied.
The tourists, who are still awaiting their first Test win, now lead the series 1-0.
Both teams were delighted to make it out to the middle after the wash-out of both last weekend's matches in Bulawayo.
Zimbabwe captain Heath Streak won the toss and elected to field despite the absence of Andy Blignaut (thigh strain).
After both openers fell cheaply, Habibul Bashar and Saleh stabilised the Bangladesh innings before gradually raising the tempo.
They put on 114 before Bashar was caught by Dion Ebrahim off spinner Grant Flower for 61, beginning a decline which saw them slump from 134-2 to 159-6 in the space of five overs.

Mohammad Rafique and Mushfiqur Rahman were both run out and Saleh fell to all-rounder Sean Ervine for 57 after hitting a six and four fours.
But former captain Khaled Mahmud sparked a final flourish by lofting Hondo wide of mid-off for four and then pulling a short ball for six in the same over.
He and Ashraful added 52 for the seventh wicket in five and a half overs before Mahmud was run out for 22.
Aziz had Flower lbw for two as Zimbabwe began their reply, but Rogers and Carlisle made light of the setback as they posted a century partnership in only 18 overs.
Mushfiqur Rahman and Mohammad Rafique revived Bangladesh by strangling the scoring rate and picking up two wickets each, leaving the home side in trouble on 169-6.
They were still in the hunt, however, while captain Streak was at the crease but he could only muster a single boundary in his 30 off 38 balls before he was caught behind off Tapash Baisya. The required run rate continued to increase despite Ray Price thumping Mahmud for six in the 48th over and the two-wicket burst by Aziz (3-38) in the final over left them too much to do.
