Left-arm spinner Ray Price put paid to Bangladesh as Zimbabwe won the first Test in Harare by 183 runs.

The tourists, who began the final day on 25-5, were bowled out for 169 to give Zimbabwe their first victory since November 2001.

Price claimed three wickets during the morning, ending a defiant 67-run partnership for the sixth wicket.

Khaled Mashud resisted bravely for 61, his highest Test score, but was last man out as Price finished with 4-61.

It was Bangladesh's 26th defeat in 27 matches since being granted Test status and their fate was sealed in Sunday's final session when a hat-trick by paceman Andy Blignaut helped sweep away their top order.

But neither Blignaut (thigh) nor Zimbabwe captain Heath Streak (back) were able to bowl because of injuries and Rajin Saleh and Manjural Islam Rana batted through the first hour.

Their partnership was finally ended when Saleh lost his patience against Price, missing the ball as he heaved across the line and leaving Tatenda Taibu with a straightforward stumping.

Rana followed when he top-edged an attempted sweep and was caught at square leg for 31, but he at least offered promise for the future having batted for five hours in total in his debut Test.

Tapash Baisya became Price's third victim when he offered up a bat-pad chance on two to leave the tourists on the brink at lunch on 112-8.

Gavin Ewing claimed his first Test victim soon after the re-start when the off-spinner clung onto a return catch to remove Mohammad Rafique for five.

Mashud had the satisfaction of reaching a 76-ball half century and going on to beat his previous best Test score of 51, made last October against England.

He hit a six and nine fours as he and last man Manjural Islam set a new Bangladesh 10th wicket Test record by putting on 46 but was then lured down the pitch by Price and Taibu ended the game with another stumping.
