Pakistan have recalled experienced batsman Younis Khan for the tour of New Zealand while Azhar Mahmood will be in the one-day squad. A squad of 16 includes eight batsmen, including successful recent recruits Asim Kamal and Yasir Hameed.
Only one specialist spinner, Danish Kaneria, is in, with four specialist seamers and two all-rounders, Abdul Razzaq and Shoaib Malik.
The tour features two Tests and five one-day internationals.
Mahmood will replace one of the 16 from the Test party after the second Test.
Chief selector Aamir Sohail said Younis had been recalled "chiefly because he enjoys an excellent record in New Zealand."
He added: "The team management is also of the view that they might need some more experience in the middle-order."
Younis scored 280 runs in four innings during Pakistan's previous tour to New Zealand in 2001.
Sohail went on: "The set of players which we have provided have been playing together for the last six or seven months and have shown remarkable improvement.
"It will be a tough tour as some will be making their maiden appearance there.
"But we are confident that under the guidance of Inzamam-ul-Haq and coaching of Javed Miandad, the boys will maintain their good performance.
"This is the best combination we can provide considering the conditions in New Zealand."
Pakistan have won four and drawn one of their last five Tests, played against Bangladesh and South Africa.
