Inzamam (right) takes over during Latif's ban |
Inzamam-ul-Haq will lead Pakistan in the one-day series against Bangladesh after Rashid Latif was handed a five-match ban for claiming an unfair catch. The burly batsman, whose century on Saturday narrowly averted Bangladesh's first ever win on his home ground of Multan, will lead the side at the same venue on Tuesday.
Match referee Mike Procter banned Latif after the Bangladesh team reported television replays showing the wicket-keeper claiming a catch against batsman Alok Kapali on Friday when the ball actually hit the ground.
But he will be available for the Test and one-day series against South Africa, which starts on 26 September and Pakistan authorities have chosen not to appeal. "We feel sorry for Latif because there is a lot of respect for him in the team," Inzamam said.
"We support him, and we will try to win this series for him." Kamran Akmal will take the wicket-keeper's gloves for the series, which concludes in Karachi on 21 September.
Inzamam took the reigns in two one-day internationals against Zimbabwe last year when Waqar Younis was rested, and stood in for an injured Moin Khan in a Test in New Zealand two years ago.
He was dropped after a poor run of form during Pakistan's disappointing World Cup campaign but returned to form after his recall for the Bangladesh Test series.
Pakistan: Inzamam-ul-Haq (captain), Imran Nazir, Mohammad Hafeez, Yousuf Youhana, Yasir Hameed, Abdul Razzaq, Shoaib Malik, Kamran Akmal, Junaid Zia, Umar Gul, Shabbir Ahmed.
