Rashid Latif will be available to face South Africa |
Pakistan captain Rashid Latif has been banned for five one-day internationals after match referee Mike Procter upheld a complaint over a controversial catch. Bangladesh lodged a complaint against Latif for claiming a catch on Friday, the third day of the third Test, which Pakistan won narrowly.
"Mr Latif should have known that he had not completed a catch," said Procter.
"I have found him guilty of a Level 3 offence of Unfair Play under the ICC Code of Conduct and suspended him for five one-day International matches."
As Pakistan face Bangladesh in a five match one-day series, Latif will be available to face South Africa in the next home series.
The Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) said it would not appeal against the decision.
PCB chief executive Rameez Raja added that his board would not take any further disciplinary action against Latif. The incident happened when Latif dived to take a low catch to dismiss Bangladesh's Alok Kapali for 22 off the bowling of Yasir Ali.
Umpire Asoka de Silva did not refer the dismissal to the third official, but the tourists later claimed that TV replays showed the ball hit the ground.
Latif attended a post-match hearing in Multan, after leading his side to a one-wicket win, giving them a 3-0 whitewash in the series and denied suggestions of cheating.
"If I had been convinced that I had not taken a clean catch and that the ball popped out of my gloves before I completed the catch motion, I would have called the batsman back," he said. "I dived, took the catch, rolled over and then just threw the ball to Inzamam."
Procter down-graded Bangladesh's initial charge of an offence under Level 4 of the ICC code, an offence covering threats and assault, which carries a ban twice as heavy.
Latif is the second player to be given a five-match ban under the ICC code of conduct after Australian Darren Lehmann allegedly made racist remarks against Sri Lankan players.
Latif himself also appeared before an ICC referee during the World Cup earlier this year but an allegation that he made a racist remark to Australia's Adam Gilchrist was dismissed by Clive Lloyd.
