Adi Birrell's Irish team have won their last eight matches
Ireland claimed an impressive seven-wicket win over Denmark in Friday's opening Intercontinental Cup qualifying match in at Clontarf.

The home team, led by Essex bowler Adrian McCoubrey who claimed 4 for 41, restricted the Danes to 224 for nine off their 50 overs.

Then with Andre Botha top-scoring with 88 and Jeremy Bray contributing 77, Ireland reached the target in the 45th over having lost only three wickets.

Not-out batsmen Niall O'Brien (24) and Andy White (14) eventually steered Ireland past the Danish total.

The victory was Ireland's eighth successive win.

The Irish take on the Danes again at Malahide on Saturday with a further clash scheduled for the same venue on Sunday if required.

In addition to McCoubrey, Kyle McCallan claimed two wickets for the loss of 39 runs while Ryan Eagleson's steady figures of no wicket for 19 from his 19 overs also helped the Irish cause.
