Mashud has paid the price for recent bad results |
Bangladesh's selectors have dropped former captain Khaled Mashud from the national team. He was left out of a 14-man squad for the first of two Tests against South Africa, starting in Chittagong on 24 April.
Wicket-keeper Mashud stepped down as Bangladeshi captain after the team's dismal World Cup performance early this year in which they failed to record a single victory.
He has played in 16 of their 17 Tests since being granted Test status, scoring 407 runs and taking 25 catches.
Mashud was replaced by wicket-keeper Mohammad Salim, who has not yet played Test cricket but did appear for his country in a one-day tournament ending on Sunday.
Experienced batsman Akram Khan and fit-again pace bowler Mashrafe-bin-Mortaza have both been recalled to the squad
It is Mortaza's first opportunity since he returned home early from the World Cup because of injury.
