Sri Lanka poised for victory
Michael Vandort
Vandort hit 140 before the declaration
Second Test, Colombo, day three (stumps): Bangladesh 164 & 103-4 v Sri Lanka 373 & 263-2 dec

Sri Lanka closed the third day of the second Test just six wickets away from their 10th consecutive home Test win, over Bangladesh in Colombo.

Michael Vandort's maiden Test century cleared the way for the hosts to declare on 263 for two at tea, leaving Bangladesh a daunting 473 to win

And they took four wickets before the close, the tourists having moved 103 runs closer to their target.

Sri Lanka declined to enforce the follow-on the previous evening and gave their inexperienced side some much-needed batting practice.

Vandort, playing in his second Test, hit 16 boundaries and one six to reach 140 before being bowled out by Talha Jubair.

Naveed Nawaz, also making his debut, finished on 78 not out after opener Jehan Mubarak was run out for 31.

Opening tumble

After an opening stand of 27, three Bangladeshi wickets fell within four overs for the addition of 13 runs, but Mohammad Ashraful guided the tourists, who have not crossed 200 in their past 10 Test innings, to stumps.

Ashraful, who last year at the same venue, became the youngest player ever to score a Test century, was 31 not out.

Opener Abdul Hannan Sarkar struck five boundaries for his 30 before being caught off the bowling of Sujeewa de Silva.

Al-Sahariar and Habibul Bashar made just six and three apiece, while Tushar Imran scored 28 before being stumped off Upul Chandana.
