Shoaib scatters Australia

Australia show concern after Lehmann was hit on the cheek
Third one-day international, Brisbane: Pakistan 256-7 (50 overs) beat Australia 165 all out (40 overs) by 91 runs

Five wickets from Shoaib Akhtar consigned Australia to a 91-run defeat in Brisbane and secured a 2-1 one-day series victory for Pakistan.

Shoaib's first six-over spell yielded 16 runs as Australia stumbled to 83 for six.

And he returned to have Jason Gillespie lbw first ball as the hosts were bowled out for 165 in the 40th over.

Shane Warne joined Shane Watson in a gritty seventh wicket stand worth 57 in 15 overs, but it was already too late to save the deciding match of the series.

Watson finished 44 not out from 78 deliveries.

Wasim Akram, making a record-equalling 334th one-day appearance, had opener Matthew Hayden lbw for five.

And Yousuf Youhana broke up Shoaib's haul with the run out of Adam Gilchrist for 20.

Earlier, a spectacular unbroken partnership of 88 off 63 balls between Youhana and Wasim put Pakistan in a good position.

Poor middle order

Pakistan had collapsed to 168 for seven in the 40th over after a strong opening partnership of 94 between Imran Nazir and Saeed Anwar.

Left-hander Saeed was given out lbw to leg-spinner Warne for 26 in the 20th over, although television replays indicated the ball would have missed off-stump.

And Nazir, who hit a fine 66 off 73 balls with six fours and two sixes, was caught by Warne at backward square off the bowling of left-arm spinner Lehmann soon after.

Lehmann left the ground two overs later, however, after suffering a cheekbone injury while fielding in his follow-through.

A massive 23 runs came off Glenn McGrath's final over - including successive Wasim sixes - and 14 came off the final over of the match, bowled by Gillespie.
